Dear John,

We are now 9 days past the election. The results are clear.

Joe Biden won—by the highest percentage of the popular vote for any challenger since FDR in 1932—and he WILL be sworn in as our next president on January 20.

And yet Donald Trump refuses to concede.

In fact, his efforts to stay in power are becoming ever more desperate and dangerous, including stacking key positions in the Pentagon with Republican loyalists and using the Justice Department to drum up phony voter-fraud investigations. 

Make no mistake: Donald Trump’s attempted coup will fail. But with right-wing Internet propagandists and GOP leaders pushing Trump’s lies, nearly half the country is coming to believe that the election was stolen—and that is almost as dangerous.

Even though Joe Biden will be our next president, we can’t just sit back and assume that the truth will win out over lies, especially on the Internet. We need to aggressively knock down every baseless claim made by Trump and his lackeys, not just to defend Biden’s victory, but also to ensure the survival of American democracy itself.

We’re fighting back against Trump’s lies about nonexistent voter fraud by activating our millions of followers all over the Internet. The American people need to know the truth.

The survival of democracy depends on all sides—including those who lost—accepting the results. But what we’re seeing now from Trump and his fellow Republicans is the closest thing to treason that we’ve seen in our lifetimes.

Trump’s lies have no chance of overturning Biden’s victory. But he can convince his supporters that the election was illegitimate.

The stakes now are much bigger than Joe Biden. This is how democracies are undermined.
