This week, in the midst of a pandemic, I stood with a coalition of Democratic state attorneys general to defend the Affordable Care Act from a legal attack brought by Republican attorneys general and the Trump Administration.
I am confident we will prevail. As long as I'm the people’s lawyer, I will stand up for Washingtonians who rely on the Affordable Care Act to get quality, affordable care.
The stakes could not be higher. 825,000 Washingtonians, including those with preexisting conditions, rely on Obamacare.
During Tuesday’s oral argument, Chief Justice Roberts spoke about a truth that was already apparent — that Donald Trump and Senator Mitch McConnell are hoping the United States Supreme Court will do their partisan dirty work and get rid of the ACA.
Referring to Republicans in Congress, Justice Roberts said, “
I think, frankly, that they wanted the court to do that [derail the ACA], but that’s not our job.”
It is reprehensible that the GOP would try to rip healthcare protections from Americans at a time when more than 100,000 Americans are testing positive for COVID-19 every day.
We cannot let that happen in our fight to protect critical access to affordable healthcare coverage.
It’s my job as attorney general to protect Washingtonians from harm. I am committed to continuing this important work.
Thank you,
Bob
