Happy Thursday, Fellow Democrats!

IRC DEMOCRATIC HEADQUARTERS HOURS

Due to safety and health reasons, our office remains closed until November 18th.

QUICK NOTE FROM THE CHAIR

First, congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for their historic victory over the Trump and Pence ticket.  Biden-Harris received over 75 million popular votes, the most number of votes in any election.  For the first time ever, we have elected a woman—a black, South Asian woman—to the second highest position in the country.  A week ago, we still did not know the outcome of the election when we sent out our newsletter.  Now we do and the world is brighter and has more possibilities today!

As we shared with you earlier this week, there were bright spots in the election in Indian River County, too.  Our voter turnout for President-Elect Biden surpassed that for Senator Hilary Clinton in 2016.  In 2016, 36.30% of IRC voters voted for Clinton, In 2020, 38.72% of IRC voters voted for Biden—a significant increase of 2.5%.  This has been noticed by both Democratic insiders and the press.

I want to thank again all the incredible volunteers who had a role in making this happen by calling and texting Democrats to vote by mail and get out the vote, designing mailed materials to targeted demographics of Democrats, writing postcards, labeling and stamping postcards and letters, recording radio ads, sign waving, poll watching, poll working, caravanning, running for office, working on a campaign, participating as a member of the data team, precinct action committee, and voter protection team, and proudly displaying a Biden-Harris sign in your yard, as well as those for our candidates for office.  It all added up to a noticeable change in our community, in spite of a pandemic.  Our work is not done, though, as we turn to new priorities.

All best regards,
Adriana

OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY THIS MONTH
TAKING THE SENATE BACK

IRC Democrats, our number one priority this month is to help Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock be elected as U.S. Senators for the State of Georgia.  We must open our wallets and give financially, we need to phone bank and text for them, and we must write postcards.  Encourage your friends and families to be involved.  Republican lawmakers are not challenging Trump on losing the Presidential Election because they need him in their fight for the Georgia Senate seats.  It’s that simple.  Our Congress hangs in the balance of this election and President-Elect’s Joe Biden’s potential to govern with Congressional support.  Here are some opportunities to get involved.

Flippin’ Georgia has numerous opportunities and ways to help from phone banking, postcard writing and donating.  Click here to access:

WRITE YOUR SENATOR AND CONGRESSMAN ABOUT TRUMP NOT CONCEDING

Please make time to call or write to your United States legislators and tell them Trump’s failure to concede the Presidential Election to President-Elect Joe Biden and their complicity in allowing this behavior is a complete failure for the American people and an abrogation of their role to uphold the U.S. Constitution.  We need to tell them to do their job and represent all the people of Florida.

You can contact them through their websites.

COVID-19 CASES ON THE RISE IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY

The daily number of cases of the coronavirus is steadily on the rise in our county.  As of yesterday, November 11, Indian River County added 47 new COVID-19 cases, according to the
Florida Department of Health dashboard. This raises the total amount of county cases to 4,272, while the death toll remained at 126; 64 of these deaths were at long-term care facilities.  There were 18 people still hospitalized as of yesterday.  We must remain vigilant against the disease.  The entire state and country are seeing dramatic increases in cases.  Wear a mask to protect you and those you interact with every day.  Social distance.  Wash your hands.  Do not congregate in indoor spaces for long.  Be smart.  Stay safe.  Stay well.

THANKSGIVING KINDNESS

I think we could all use some kindness right now. And there is no better feeling than to be a giver of kindness.  So, in the spirit of the season of giving, please consider sponsoring a turkey for families in need this Thanksgiving.  The 14th Annual Turkey Giveaway at the Gifford Youth Achievement Center will take place on Wednesday, November 18th.  To sponsor a family meal, please call Freddie Woolfork at 772-794-1005 ext. 234.

That’s all folks.  Stay healthy!!!
