Joe Biden is the president-elect of the United States of America.
But you wouldn’t know it based on the Trump administration’s recent actions.
President Trump continues to falsely claim there was widespread election fraud. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that “there will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration.” Attorney General Bill Barr broke longstanding policy and authorized prosecutors to pursue investigations of the election before results are certified. And Trump-appointed GSA Administrator Emily Murphy is refusing to recognize Biden’s victory, holding up resources for the transition process.
Make no mistake, this is incredibly dangerous. We are witnessing an attempt to delegitimize valid election results, casting doubt on the votes of millions of Americans. It is an attack on our democracy, and we can’t let it go unchallenged.
CREW is investigating the GSA’s process for determining who has won the election, which kicks off much of the formal transition process. CREW also called for a congressional hearing on the matter. We also are continuing to call for Bill Barr’s impeachment, which is all the more urgent now that he is giving credence to Trump’s false claims of widespread election fraud and authorizing action by prosecutors. If President Trump and his allies think they can retain power by defying the will of the people and denying the results of the election, they are wrong. The American people have spoken, and together we will not allow them to be drowned out. Call your senators and representatives to encourage them to recognize the election results. Push back on misinformation, and spread the word of Trump’s corrupt attempts to remain in power. Millions of people are watching, and we need to make sure the Trump administration knows it.
