Defund SPD & Reinvest in Community!
Town Halls with City Councilmembers and Community Organizers Nikkita Oliver & Jesse Hagopian
Seattle DSA, our Afrosocialists and Socialists of Color caucus, and our district groups are hosting town hall meetings this week to pressure City Councilmembers to follow through on their pledge to defund SPD by 50%! Join us:
Today, Thu. Nov. 12th, 6-8pm
-
Mon. Nov. 16th, 6-8pm
Tens of thousands of people protested for months, demanding that Mayor Durkan and the City Council defund the Seattle Police Department by 50% and reinvest those funds in community-led health and safety services. As a result, 7 out of 9 councilmembers pledged to defund the SPD by 50%. However, the City Council’s new budget proposal would defund the Seattle Police Department by only 17%.
While 17% is a step forward, the community must demand that the Council fulfills its promise to defund SPD by the full 50%. Join us for two online town hall meetings this week and next! Come sign up to speak, or just come watch, and invite family and friends!
Please RSVP at each link above to get the Zoom link to each virtual town hall meeting.
