** How far would low-energy Joe push the anti-energy agenda?
------------------------------------------------------------
Real Clear Energy ([link removed]) (11/11/20) column: "'Energy in the executive' was Alexander Hamilton’s famous phrase in The Federalist suggesting how the presidency would be the powerful engine of political purpose under the Constitution. Nowadays, though, the phrase takes on a new and narrower meaning: what will the nation’s chief executive do about – well, energy? As the 2020 presidential election campaign drew to a close, it became apparent that enthusiasm among Democrats to ban fracking for oil and gas production might cost them the all-important state of gas-rich Pennsylvania and stifle any dreams of putting Texas into play. Joe Biden and running mate Kamala Harris backtracked on their earlier, more aggressive opposition to fracking, saying now that they would limit it to federal lands, of which Pennsylvania has few. Beyond the fracking issue, there’s a larger energy story that may play out in ironic
ways in what liberals hope will be the equivalent of Barack Obama’s third term...This 'anti-energy in the executive' approach would no doubt thrill the Democratic Party’s grassroots, but it would fare poorly in energy-intensive states like Michigan and Pennsylvania that delivered Biden’s narrow victory. But, at 78 years old by the time he takes office and facing the strong possibility that he will be a one-term president, Biden may be an old man in a hurry, one who discounts conventional political calculations."
** "Coastal land loss is a significant issue that needs to be addressed – but this legal blame game is nothing more than a state-sponsored money grab."

Ya, I guess EVs bursting into flames COULD BE a big turn off to buyers.

(11/10/20) reports: "Automakers seeking to forge ahead in the electric vehicle market have been hitting a bump in the road recently: batteries keep catching fire. At the end of September, BMW initiated a recall in the United States of 10 different BMW and Mini plug-in hybrid models because of a risk of fire caused by debris that may have gotten into battery cells during manufacturing. Then, in early October, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into reports of apparently spontaneous battery fires in Chevrolet Bolt EVs. GM says it is cooperating with the investigation. A few days later, Hyundai announced that it was recalling 6,700 Kona Electric SUVs in the United States, among about 75,000 of that model to be recalled worldwide, after it had received numerous reports of vehicles catching fire while parked...And that has the potential to turn prospective buyers away from the burgeoning market for electric cars, said Michelle Krebs, director of
automotive relations at AutoTrader. AutoTrader's parent company, Cox Automotive, regularly surveys car shoppers about their priorities when looking for a new vehicle and the top two are always dependability and safety, Krebs said. Reports of vehicles catching fire are obviously bad on both counts."
China excited over possible Biden regime

(11/10/20) reports: "Shares in the Chinese companies that dominate production of solar panels rose after Joe Biden's victory increased the likelihood that the world's top economy will accelerate its move toward clean energy. During the campaign, Biden said he's aiming to eliminate carbon emissions from the U.S. power sector by 2035. Doing so will require a ramp-up in new solar installations, which should lift global demand and support the sector, said Dennis Ip, an analyst with Daiwa Capital Markets in Hong Kong. 'If you look over the past five years, U.S. solar installations were just stable as the Trump administration focused on fossil fuels,' Ip said in a phone interview. 'A Biden victory will lead to a direct increase.' Daiwa forecasts U.S. annual installations rising from about 12 gigawatts to 26 gigawatts over the next five years, which would push global demand growth to almost 20% a year, compared with 17.5% if U.S. policy remained unchanged."

Climbing down from crazy town.
** Arizona Central ([link removed])
(11/7/20) reports: "Arizona will have two new faces on the Arizona Corporation Commission, and one returning member, and the new makeup of the office could threaten the recently passed clean-energy rules for electric utilities. The Associated Press called the race Saturday for Republican Lea Márquez Peterson, who Gov. Doug Ducey appointed to the commission, Republican Jim O'Connor, who had to qualify for the ballot as a primary write-in, and Democrat Anna Tovar, who is finishing a term as Tolleson Mayor. Tovar and Márquez Peterson are the first two Hispanic women elected to statewide office in Arizona. The five-member commission sets rates and policies for electric, gas and water utilities, and oversees railroad crossings, pipeline safety and securities. One such policy could be in the crosshairs of the new commissioners, though. Commission members recently approved clean-energy rules mandating utilities to get all of their energy from carbon-free sources by 2050, but that could be undone
based on statements O'Connor made during the campaign and the way Márquez Peterson has voted on the issue."
