Friends,

Five years ago, a core group of racial and social justice organizations and labor unions convened to attempt the impossible: closing the corporate tax loopholes that cost our local communities and schools $12 billion every year.

Prop. 15 didn't pass, but we are proud of what we achieved — Yes on 15 was the largest grassroots campaign in California’s history.

Here at LAANE, our Long Beach Rising team organized a small but mighty grassroots operation that blew past our goals. During 343 phone banking shifts, our volunteers had 11,871 conversations with voters about Prop. 15.
And our hard work paid off: in L.A. County, 53% of voters said YES to Prop. 15.

For years, the tax structure has been the third rail of California politics, considered untouchable by many. But we’ve shown that is not true. Despite a pandemic, an economic crisis, and being outspent by $20 million, the Yes on 15 campaign, led by the communities most impacted by disinvestment, came very close to winning.

We know it is only a matter of time before the people of California beat back the evil legacy of Prop. 13 and make sure greedy corporations pay their fair share.

Without the revenue that would have been generated by Prop. 15, our state needs bold leadership more than ever before. To recover from the pandemic and move forward, we must keep up the fight against austerity and push for more revenue to invest in the things we need — good schools, safe homes, great jobs, and accessible healthcare.

No matter the outcome of this election, we will keep fighting for working families.
In Solidarity,

Roxana Tynan
