Keynote panel set
for CCL's virtual
conference in December

With the election now over and a new administration taking office that has vowed to make climate change a top priority, we have new opportunities to enact climate solutions.

A policy like a carbon fee and dividend is politically viable, CCL’s Senior Director for Government Affairs Ben Pendergrass said in a recent InsideClimate News article. “We've been working to build out support, and there's still work to be done,” Ben said.

At our upcoming “United We Move” conference, we’ll do that work and get ready for success in 2021.

The conference, taking place Dec. 5-7, will feature a keynote panel of some of our favorite speakers:

  • Hahrie Han, political science professor at Johns Hopkins
  • Shi-Ling Hsu, law professor at Florida State University and author of “The Case for a Carbon Tax”
  • John Wood, Jr., Director of Public Outreach at Braver Angels

CCL Executive Director Mark Reynolds will moderate the panel discussion and a Q&A afterward. Will we see you there?

Take action this week

If you have a little time: Watch CCL’s video about President-elect Joe Biden’s climate plan and how the work of CCL fits in with that plan. Watch the video on your preferred social media platform — Twitter, Facebook or Instagram — and share with others.

If you have more time: Invite a friend who wants to see Congress work together on climate to attend CCL's November national meeting. Tia Nelson, daughter of Earth Day founder Sen. Gaylord Nelson and manager of Outrider Foundation, is the guest speaker. The call is this Saturday at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. You can join virtually from your computer or phone. Details here.

You can also connect with your nearest CCL chapter to take action in your community, or join one of CCL’s national online Action Teams to take action on specific topics like agriculture, health, faith, and more.

Media: Kids call for climate action

The day before Halloween, kids in Sudbury, Canada, decided to dress up and walk the streets calling for action on climate change. They were supported by their local Citizens' Climate Lobby group, and their Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) came out in costumes, too. MPPs Jamie West and France Gélinas presented the youth with a special Parliamentary certificate on the occasion, which marked two years of striking with Greta Thunberg. CBC Kids News made a short documentary about their COVID-safe Halloween adventures.

CCL volunteers are regularly activating the “five levers” of political will in their communities. If you’d like to learn more about how to pull the media lever like these volunteers did, watch or read this training on generating media coverage.
