A Light in Darkness: Violent Attacks on the Jewish Community and the Fight to Overcome Them

As we’ve seen the numbers of antisemitic incidents rise, so too has violence against Jews, and especially Orthodox Jews. Deadly attacks in Paris, Pittsburgh, Poway, Halle, Jersey City and Monsey have shaken us to our core. There is, however, light in all of this darkness. Communities, family members and survivors are healing, tending bridges of understanding and sending a message to the world that despite the intentions of their attackers, Jews are still here. Join us for a conversation to hear stories of survival and resilience against hate!

Double Click on Digital Harassment (CLE Eligible)

The global pandemic has forced society into virtual spaces, but laws protecting our ability to work, learn, play, organize and worship online haven’t kept up. Take a deep dive into online hate and the legal protections currently available (and unavailable) to targets. We’ll discuss whether and how our laws define different forms of online harassment, the ways in which identity-based harassment manifests, and what tech companies and government entities can and should be doing to decrease hate online. If you want to learn more about swatting, doxing and zoombombing — or if you have no idea what we’re talking about — this session is for you. This session is part of the Edward
Brodsky CLE Track.

Black-Jewish Relations in 2020: Navigating a Changing World

2020 has been one of the most tumultuous years in recent history. The murder of George Floyd re-ignited the racial justice movement in the context of the deadly COVID pandemic and a polarizing presidential election. In this session, we will explore the issues that both unite and divide Jews and Black people today, the impact of these issues on Black Jews, and some grassroots efforts to work together.

You can read about the experts on these panels, and look ahead to the sessions next week, on the

Never Is Now agenda.

One highlight you won’t want to miss is the Closing Session next Thursday evening at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT. We will discuss the impact of the unprecedented Stop Hate for Profit campaign launched this year to hold social media companies accountable, and then present ADL’s International Leadership Award to legendary world chess champion Garry Kasparov for his tireless work as an advocate for individual liberty and civic engagement as the chairman of the Human Rights Foundation and founder of the Renew Democracy Initiative. We’ll conclude the closing session with a panel of high-profile athletes and journalists talking about the importance of athletes as role models in the fight
against hate.

Join thousands of experts, community and business leaders, students and concerned community members in taking part in the Summit so you can be a leader in the fight against antisemitism and hate.
