As one of the co-founders of Black Lives Matter, people often ask me, “how do you turn a hashtag into a movement?” But the honest answer is that hashtags don’t start movements. People do.
Over the last seven years, Black Lives Matter has gone from being a controversial statement to a rallying cry for people all over the country who believe that real justice is a possibility for our people. It’s been my honor to be a small part of this huge movement, and it’s my hope that my recently released book, The Purpose of Power: How We Come Together When We Fall Apart, can help light the way towards the freedom that we all want so desperately and that Color Of Change is fighting for every day.
John, the truth is that we are in a moment of incredible crisis. But we’re also in a moment of incredible opportunity. We’ve had to work hard this year to push forward a truth many of us know well: that Black communities and our concerns need to be front and center if this country is going to actually achieve the values it espouses.
Color Of Change is fighting for a future that puts more power into the hands of our people, and that changes the rules that have been rigged against our communities for generations.
Thank you for your support.
Until justice is real,
