Dear John,

On Veterans Day, we at the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) thank our veterans for their service and sacrifice.

We also recognize that military service member and veteran suicide is a public health crisis in America, and firearms play a critical role, as firearms are the most common method chosen among this group. In 2017, 69.4% of veteran suicide deaths were by firearm.

Though there is no single explanation or cause for suicide, there are risk factors that do increase the risk for suicide, including access to firearms. Interventions to prevent firearm suicide are important for civilian, service member, and veteran populations alike, as well as for their families, and must be implemented to save lives.

Today and every day, CSGV commits to pursuing evidence-based solutions to prevent firearm suicide -- including service member and veteran suicide. Thanks to supporters like you, we can continue to save lives.

Thank you,

Josh Horwitz
