Hi there,

The Hill has confirmed that Puerto Ricans voted in favor of statehood in this election, hoping that the passed statehood referendum will serve "as a way to urge and nudge Congress to act."

Congress, however, isn't under any clear legal obligation to do so, and Republicans have remained strongly opposed to granting statehood -- maybe because the Center for American Progress finds that statehood for Puerto Rico could result in at least two new consistent Democratic seats in the Senate.

Adding Puerto Rico as a state wouldn't just serve to even the political odds -- it would also give representation to the millions who live in Puerto Rico, American citizens who pay federal taxes but lack a voice in Congress. Americans are divided, however, on whether or not they support adding one more star to the flag -- that's why we're reaching out to you now. Tell us your view:

Do you support statehood for Puerto Rico?
