Dear John,

2021 could be a year of momentous opportunity for human rights. But only if we
act now.

Over the past few months, our policy team has been working diligently to develop
Amnesty International USA’s top human rights priorities for the incoming Biden
administration.

Together, we’ve mapped a path forward: it’s called “Strengthening Human Rights for All in 2021*,” and it’s a comprehensive report of our key 11 domestic and global policy
recommendations for the Biden team. Take a look, and sign here to urge President-Elect Biden to put human rights at
the top of his agenda. We’re collecting your signatures and will deliver them to
Biden’s team.

President Trump’s term was hallmarked by human rights violations from day one. But here’s a crucial reminder: while the actions of his administration have eroded human rights nationally and
globally, it is not too late to reverse course.

U.S. presidents have incredible authority to develop and execute policies that
affect human rights in the U.S. and globally. But to get anything done in Washington takes sustained political effort — and
intensive public pressure. John, many of the human rights violations we’re
documenting now date from even before President Trump took office. That’s why our human rights agenda is so important
for the long-term well-being and safety of people everywhere. It’s also why I’m
asking you to speak up now

Here are the first few items on our Human Rights Agenda for the Biden
administration:

1. Restore access to asylum, refugee, and humanitarian protection
2. Release detained asylum seekers and prisoners of conscience
3. Protect and promote human rights globally, in addition to nationally
4. Halt arms sales to human rights violators
5. Cancel debt payments for the poorest countries recovering from the COVID-19

We need to act fast to urge the Biden administration to adopt a bold,
transformational strategy that places human rights at the forefront of all domestic and foreign policies.
