John,
The fight to stop the Williams fracked gas pipeline in New York City just
took a major twist.
This week, local gas utility National Grid did something unheard of — it
sent emails directly to NYC customers urging them to lobby in favor of
building this totally unnecessary and destructive pipeline^1.
I won’t mince words here: this is a blatant attempt by National Grid to
hijack the public comment period and the democratic process it’s supposed
to represent.
This kind of behavior is unprecedented, and it reeks of desperation. But
it’s also a sign that fossil fuel billionaires are adapting to a changing
landscape and experimenting with new tactics to stop our movement. Which
means the fight to stop the Williams pipeline is more important than ever
before.
[ [link removed] ]There’s just one day left to submit a public comment opposing the
Williams pipeline. As a non-New Yorker, can you act in solidarity and take
a second to petition NY Governor Andrew Cuomo to stop this destructive
project?

New Yorkers’ resistance has already had a ripple effect felt throughout
the country. Earlier this year, President Trump signed two executive
orders limiting states’ powers to stop oil and gas pipelines —
specifically in response to successful grassroots efforts to stop Williams
and other fracked gas pipelines in New York State^2.
This stunt by National Grid is just the latest in a series of attempts to
tilt the scales in favor of fossil fuel billionaires. That’s why the
battle to stop the Williams pipeline is so important. What happens here
has national implications for similar fights against fossil fuel
infrastructure. We can’t let fossil fuel billionaires cheat the system
with cheap tricks like this.
It’s going to take all of taking action to stop the Williams pipeline for
good. [ [link removed] ]25,000 people have already told Governor Cuomo to do what’s
right. Sign now and help get that number up to 50,000.
Let’s stop this pipeline for good,
Cata
