Dear John,
We are excited to invite you to a virtual forum on November 17th from 5:00-6:30 PM to hear from candidates running to be Maine’s new Secretary of State!
RSVP here >>
For the past eight months, we’ve been working closely with allies and partners to ensure that Maine’s election system is resilient, responsive, and accessible to all eligible voters.
But we aren’t the only actors working on the administration of elections. From our dedicated town clerks to our amazing Governor and her staff, countless Mainers are involved in ensuring that voting is seamless and accessible for all.
The most prominent figure, though, is Maine’s Secretary of State. Elected every two years by the Legislature, along with the Attorney General, State Auditor, and State Treasurer, Maine’s Secretary of State oversees elections, the formation of corporations in the State, and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (among other things). Since 2012, Matt Dunlap of Old Town has served as Maine’s Secretary of State. Secretary Dunlap is now term limited from running again and six candidates are running to replace him.
Candidates include:
-
Senator Shenna Bellows, Manchester
-
Outgoing Senator Justin Chenette, Saco
-
Outgoing Representative Erik Jorgensen, Portland
-
Outgoing Representative Matt Moonen, Portland
-
Outgoing Representative Craig Hickman, Winthrop
-
Former Representative Tom Bull, Freeport
Each has their own vision for the position. Register for our virtual forum to learn more.
