It might sound like a good idea, but in reality protected areas bring human rights abuses, hunger and misery to indigenous peoples in Africa and Asia.
The European Union is leading the international call to double protected areas around the world. They want this idea adopted at next year’s Convention on Biological Diversity meeting.
If that happens, millions of indigenous and local people will be reduced to landless poverty. And it won’t do anything to protect biodiversity. It’s the #BigGreenLie.
In a unique event hosted by European Parliamentarians, together with other organisations, we’re giving indigenous people a platform to speak truth to some of those behind this #BigGreenLie.
Indigenous people who’ve experienced first hand the brutalities of colonial conservation will be joined by leading #DecolonizeConservation activists such as Kenya’s Mordecai Ogada. They’ll come face to face with some of big conservation’s key backers and funders.
It promises to be an eye-opening event, and you’re warmly invited to participate.
