Before we even had the opportunity to celebrate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris being elected the next President and Vice President, Republicans and those defending the status quo decided to throw progressives under the bus. People like John Kasich claimed that policies such as universal health care almost lost Biden and Harris the election while costing swing-district Democrats their seats. Let me be clear: This couldn't be further from the truth.

Every single swing-district Democrat who co-sponsored my Medicare for All legislation won their race. This happened at the same time that a Fox News poll showed 72% of voters favoring a move to a government-run health care plan. This shouldn't come as a surprise when 87 million people across the country were uninsured or underinsured even before COVID-19 hit. A public health and economic crisis is not the time for small ideas or half steps. The people voted for bold, progressive, transformative change and we must deliver -- or risk losing the progressive coalition we've fought so hard to build.

We cannot undervalue or dismiss the historic turnout of Black, brown, immigrant, and young voters who made the difference in key states and delivered us an enormous victory. Now we must follow their lead by delivering bold, progressive policies -- from Medicare for All and canceling student debt to climate justice and jobs that pay a living wage -- that actually make a real impact in people's lives.

Never forget that this diverse and progressive coalition is how we will continue to win in the future. We can't afford to let another Trump take power in four years, but if we don't make our agenda a reality and transform people's lives for the better, that's exactly what will happen.
