And open up opportunities leading into 2021. Indivisibles,
We can’t believe it’s been only days since the election was called, especially since the current sitting president has yet to concede to the clear victors -- President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who, unlike Trump, won both the popular vote and the electoral college vote.
We’ve clearly got a lot of work ahead of us, and we still have significant work tied to the 2020 elections with TWO critical Georgia runoffs facing us in January that will determine control of the Senate in 2021. We’ve pulled together new resources and actions for you to help you through these next few weeks as we put 2020 in a box to the left and welcome in (a very much needed) Biden administration.
This is how we’ll show 2020 the door →
- Fighting to win the two Senate runoffs in Georgia on January 5.
- Fending off any final Trump catastrophes.
- Bolstering House progressive voting bloc power headed into 2021.
- Ensuring Biden makes good early personnel choices.
- Winning the coming COVID-19 response legislative fight.
While we’re still working out the details for many of these goals (and honestly, waiting to see which disasters Trump cooks up), we encourage you to read and share these resources with everyone who’s been fighting alongside you for the last four years. Also, keep an eye on social media and check your inboxes as we continue to add new action items and to-dos.
All of our goals above depend on you -- and all the other Indivisibles around the country -- taking action and applying your power where it’s most strategic. That means calling your members of Congress, showing up at district offices, making calls to voters in Georgia, and so much more.
These resources will be key in the weeks ahead as you re-energize and re-engage your community. We expect that the runoffs in Georgia and the fights over COVID-19 relief and federal funding will be major news-worthy moments, and those decisions will directly impact all of us. You’ll find details on why these fights are important in the resource, and soon, we’ll have action items for you to channel your energy.
We’ve also highlighted the critical groundwork that we have to lay for a better 2021. Our best strategy heading into 2021 is to make Mitch McConnell as irrelevant as possible and to wield our power as forcefully as he does. We can minimize McConnell and the GOP’s influence by supporting the newly created progressive voting bloc in the House, pushing the Biden administration to staff up with progressives -- not corporate lobbyists -- and so much more.
If you’re already raring to take action with us, here's one thing you can do immediately: call your Senators and demand that they urge President-elect Biden to not nominate or hire corporate-backed candidates to his administration. We must ensure that Biden doesn’t pick corporate executives, high-level consultants, or lobbyists to serve in his administration -- instead, he should choose progressive nominees who reflect the work and goals that we want to achieve in 2021. If Biden does choose corporatists for these roles, demand that your Senators decline to confirm these nominees.
The last few weeks have been tough for all of us, but we’re so thankful for everything this movement has done to make Trump a one-term president. You did that. We’re going to send Trump and his administration packing, we’re going to welcome in the Biden-Harris administration and the new Congress, and we’re going to hold them accountable to the folks who voted them in.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
