John -- This year has been unlike any other. We’re all impacted by it, some much more directly than others.

Join us ***this Friday and Saturday*** for a virtual version of Making Money Make Change to collectively reckon with what this year has taught us.

Registration closes this Thursday at 5 pm ET/2pm PT.

We’ll share our stories, learn together, and move towards finding our roles as young people with access to wealth in fighting for economic, racial, and social justice.

Who should attend MMMC and what to expect:

Making Money Make Change is designed for young people with class privilege who want to get clearer on how to enact the values of racial and economic justice.

This two day version of the MMMC will include workshops, panels, small group conversations and plenaries. Tentative schedule (ET) below:

Friday Nov 13th

  • 1-2pm ET Opening
    • In the opening session, we’ll have a chance to chat with one another, to learn a little about what beliefs drive RG and how the racial wealth divide functions.
  • 2-3 pm ET Pods
    • During this hour we’ll be in small groups with other young people with class privilege sharing about where our and/or our families wealth comes from.
  • 3-3:30pm ET Break
  • 3:30-5pm ET Workshop - Reparations as a Lens on Giving
    • What is the history, values and strategy of Reparations work and how can it be an intentional lens in all your giving? We will talk about the larger strategy of reparations in movements and connection to stolen labor, land, and lives. Additionally, we will share concrete examples of land reparations work and opportunities through the developing campaign partnerships between black alliances with reparations frameworks and RG, such as M4BL and other land power networks. How can people think about taking some of these conce pts and putting them into action in their personal giving plans, family organizing, philanthropic networks and local chapter work?
  • 5-6pm ET Race Caucusing
    • We’ll spend an hour caucused by race and class to more closely examine how they influence our experience and how to live into anti-racist, anti-classist values.

Saturday Nov 14th

  • 1-2:30pm ET Defund Police: Funding Abolitionist Futures Workshop
    • How did we get to the current reality of mass incarnation in the US? In this workshop we will explore a timeline of policing in the US and the corresponding prison abolitionist movement. Bringing us to the current tense demands to end money bail, invest in community and defund the police. This interactive workshop will help us all find meaningful ways to engage with this demand locally and nationally.
  • 2:30-3pm ET Break
  • 3-4:30pm ET Organizing Panel
    • We’ll hear from social justice leaders what it means to them to be organizing in these times, what has 2020 highlighted about the necessity of wealth redistribution and best donor practices for being in supporting frontline organizing. The panel will feature Karissa Lewis from Movement for Black Lives, Nsé Ufot from New Georgia Project, Natalia Salgado from Center for Popular Democracy Action, and a member of NDN Collective. Come for the pearls, stay for the q n a.
    • 4:30-5:30pm ET Pods
      • During this small group time we’ll focus on our redistribution and what we plan to give moving forward.
    • 5:30-6pm ET Closing
      • A brief close out of our time together to share what we’re taking with us and appreciations for the virtual time together.
