Jared Kushner and I both attended Harvard, but the similarities stop there.

Kushner's parents paid his way through life.

And he had the audacity to claim that people of color who work hard everyday to overcome systemic barriers do not "want to be successful."

So I'll tell you what I told Good Morning America:

Out-of-touch GOP elites like him have no idea what it's like to hustle as an everyday American to achieve your dreams. But I do, and I would be honored if you would chip in to my campaign so I can keep fighting for the America that made my story possible in Congress >> [link removed]

As the son of an immigrant single mother, I was against all odds to attend Harvard.

No one in my family had gone to college but I was determined.

I bought used prep books and practiced for my entrance tests in between flipping burgers at my after-school job.

I thumbed through the Harvard directory for students with 'Latino sounding' names to ask for advice.

When the time came to apply, I used money orders to pay my application fee and figured out the FAFSA on my own.

I took the bus and walked over a mile just to get to my admissions interviews.

But I know that no one makes it on their own. It was with the support of my community that I ultimately got my acceptance and my opportunity to build a better life.

Just like I needed help then, I need your help now.

I became a public servant to fend for families like mine in Congress, but I need to raise $7,059 today to keep my Democratic campaign fully funded. I'm not afraid to ask for help, so I'm personally asking: Will you chip in $5 now? >> [link removed]

With gratitude,
