[[link removed]]Dear friend and fellow sojourner,

The election is over, and voters’ voices were heard loud and clear: Joe Biden is president-elect and Kamala Harris is vice president-elect. Despite
voter suppression efforts, disinformation campaigns, and attempts to sow chaos
and confusion, voters – particularly in communities of color – showed up in
unprecedented ways.

Despite this, Donald Trump has not conceded this election – and his
unwillingness to do so is yet another assault on our democracy. Candidates may
refuse to concede, but once all ballots are counted and certified, the election
is over, even if the president wants to ignore or deny the results.

We are in uncharted waters, and we must be prepared to take action. In the
coming hours and days, we should all be on alert for further erosion of, and
assaults on, our democratic norms. Deliberate misinformation campaigns and
political divisions are accelerating, and we must respond swiftly to amplify
fact-based reporting and calls for a peaceful transition.

Join us in offering a resounding call to protect our democracy and to ensure a
peaceful transition of power. Donate to Sojourners today to support our faithful response to protect
democracy.

support strategic multifaith rapid response efforts, both digitally and through
mobilization at tactical flashpoints around the country. And we know this because of the impact your support has already made!

We saw firsthand last week how grassroots mobilizing efforts made all the
difference – and our Lawyers and Collars Voter Protection campaign made a real
impact on the ground!

* In Ohio, election officials chose a private building under construction as a
voting site. When people showed up to vote, the construction crew blocked
them from entering until poll chaplain Angela Shute Woodson showed up and
appealed to election officials, who forced the construction company to allow
voters inside.
* In Detroit, voters in a Latinx community were experiencing intimidation at
the polls and our chaplains were immediately dispatched to the site,
providing a calming and protective presence.
* A polling site in a low-income area of Birmingham, Alabama, was relocated
with no explanation and very little warning to residents – many of whom
typically struggle to acquire a reliable means of transportation. Our
volunteers were there to make sure more than 100 voters had rides to the new
polling place.

We are so grateful for how you make this work possible with your generous
support!
[[link removed]] You prove that together we are stronger.

As I write this, we – alongside our partners – are mobilizing to press both the
current and incoming administrations on critical issues such as the COVID
pandemic, racialized policing, immigrant rights, and climate justice. We are
informing our readers through our publications and resourcing our audience
through daily newsletters. We are speaking truth with power and persistence to
counter the barrage of misinformation.

People of faith from across the country – people like you, Black, white, and
brown alike – are ready to stand in unity to ensure we preserve and protect our
democratic values. Only then can we build a stronger democracy that truly
guarantees liberty and justice for all.

Until then, remember: We hold the keys to our democracy, and no single person
can take it away from us. Join with us and give today.
