Friends,
This week, you can make a big difference.
The Massachusetts House of Representatives is starting their debate on
the budget for the 2021 fiscal year. It's a critical time, and
we're calling on everyone to reach out to their reps and voice
support for key amendments.
350 Mass, along with Raise Up Massachusetts and the Housing and Environment Revenue Opportunities (HERO)
coalition, urge you to support the following amendments, which
help our most vulnerable citizens while bringing in desperately needed
revenue:
-
Amendment #139 (Rep Elugardo) to H5150: Providing
for climate change adaptation infrastructure and affordable housing
investments: increasing deeds excise fees to fund climate change
resiliency and affordable housing production and access
-
Amendment #231 (Donato): Emergency Paid Sick
Time
-
Amendment #524 (Sabadosa): Increase the Tax Rate on
Corporate Profits
-
Amendment #675 (Connolly): Increase the Tax Rate that
Investors Pay on Unearned Income
-
Amendment #719 (Gouveia): Tax Profits Shifted
Overseas by Increasing the Tax Rate on 'GILTI' (global intangible
low-taxed income)
Additionally, please ask your representatives to support these
important amendments, while you're at it:
-
Amendment #194 (Straus): RTA Funding
-
Amendment #418 (Fernandes): Authorizing Retirement
Systems to Divest from Fossil Fuels.
Learn more about these amendments and see a sample letter
here. Let's protect our communities, our climate, and our
future!
In solidarity,
Sam Payne

Ballot Questions Report
Together with
Act On Mass, 350 Mass put two nonbinding public policy questions on the ballot
in many districts for last week's election. One of the questions asked
representatives to vote in favor of a transition to 100% renewable
energy in MA by 2040, and the other asked representatives to vote in
favor of releasing committee votes within the MA State House publicly
online.
We are still waiting on the final vote tallies, but from the data we
have received, both measures seem to have passed with supermajority
support! You can view our results tracking document here.

Solidarity Opportunities
Help
Win Housing Stability: Tens of thousands of families across
the state face eviction following the October 17 expiration of our
state's moratorium. Amendment #585 / #763 will prevent a massive surge
of unjust evictions against tenants who fell behind on rent due to the
pandemic, protect homeowners from foreclosure, and stabilize
small-scale property owners by extending the right to mortgage
forbearance and establishing a Housing Stability & Recovery Fund.
