John,

After a long, hard-fought campaign, we delivered Minnesota’s 10 electoral votes to Vice President Joe Biden. Donald Trump will be a one-term president, and that’s thanks to what we accomplished here in Minnesota. We’ll also be sending Tina Smith back to the United States Senate and Jason Lewis into an early political retirement.

In addition, we helped re-elect Congresswoman Angie Craig to a well-deserved second term after a hard fought race. And Dean Phillips, Betty McCollum, and Ilhan Omar decisively won victories and will continue their fantastic work on behalf of all of us in Washington, DC.

You should be proud of what we accomplished last Tuesday. As Senator Paul Wellstone said: “If we don't fight hard enough for the things we stand for, at some point we have to recognize that we don't really stand for them.”

Friends, we fought hard for what we stand for. We took nothing for granted and left it all on the field. This was a tremendous effort in the midst of a pandemic which changed so many of our plans and tactics.

We made some tremendous strides in key areas of Minnesota. We took districts that we lost by 20 points in 2016 and closed those gaps almost completely. Moving forward, we are extremely well positioned to build on those gains.

I want to reiterate my most sincere thanks for your support, and the incredible work you did to help us keep Minnesota blue in the face of some of the most well-funded and well-organized Republican opposition we’ve seen in years.

As Joe Biden said when he accepted the nomination for President of the United States of America, “with passion and purpose, let us begin – together, one nation, under God – united in our love for America and united in our love for each other.”

I hope you’ll join me in heeding President-elect Biden’s words and recommit yourself to moving forward with passion and purpose to build a better Minnesota. We have a lot more work to do, and I look forward to doing that tough work alongside you.

I am so grateful for all that you have done to build our Minnesota DFL Party throughout the state in a year which is so unprecedented on many levels.

With highest gratitude,

Ken Martin
Chairman
Minnesota DFL
