TLC at the United States Conference on AIDS!

Positively Trans, our project centering trans people living with HIV, joined health departments, organizations, and community members this month at the annual United States Conference on AIDS (USCA). We were able to share our latest needs assessment report with attendees from all across the country. Positively Trans members participated in an action calling for greater community input from governmental entities like the National Minority AIDS Council and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Won't you celebrate with us?

There is so much to celebrate! This Friday, Bandcamp will be hosting a benefit concert with all proceeds going to us. We are honored to have their support and the support of artists performing at the event. You're invited! Don't forget to grab your ticket here.

Our annual SPARK! celebration and fundraiser is October 24th! Don’t miss this powerful evening celebrating victories, honoring our movement leaders, and recommitting together to the fight for justice. SPARK! features an open bar, music, speakers, dancing, and more. You’ll get to hear from this year’s Vanguard Award Honoree Mattee Jim, a trans leader from the Navajo Nation who has devoted more than two decades to organizing and advocacy for trans communities and those living with HIV. SPARK! ticket purchases and sponsorships help resource our ongoing work, which includes supporting grassroots leaders like Mattee. Tickets and more information here.

TLC opposes new proposal from the Department of Labor

Yesterday, Transgender Law Center submitted a comment in strong opposition to the proposed rules by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance that would amend section 204(c) of Executive Order 11246. The proposed rule would allow federal contractors to invoke their religious beliefs in order to discriminate against transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) employees.

The impact of this proposed rule would be acutely felt by transgender people of color, transgender people living with HIV, and transgender people with disabilities. Earlier this summer, Positively Trans (T+) announced the results of their 2018 needs assessment of TGNC people living with HIV in three locations in the U.S.: Detroit, Michigan, New Orleans, Louisiana, and South Florida. Nearly half the respondents were unemployed and 86% reported that their greatest legal need was related to employment discrimination.

Help us welcome new staff to the TLC family!

Achieving our vision for trans people’s safety, dignity, and liberation won’t be easy. We know it’ll require the dream team. That’s why we’ve brought so many spectacular people onto our staff this year! You can read all about them on our blog [to be linked once blog post goes up].

Thank you for your votes!

In July, we were chosen by CREDO to receive a share of a $150,000 grant, and thanks to your votes, CREDO has awarded TLC over $33,000! Support like CREDO’s, alongside donations from individuals and families, fuels our work to keep trans people alive, thriving, and fighting for liberation. We can’t stress enough how grateful we are for your support. We mean it literally when we say we can’t do what we do without you. THANK YOU!

The fight to protect trans health isn't over.

Did you know that YOU broke records? Because you took action, a record-breaking 132,400 comments were submitted to #ProtectTransHealth and #PutPatientsFirst. We know the fight to #ProtectTransHealth isn’t over. Protecting trans health in the long run will require consistent action against attacks from this administration. Can you take action by giving what you can to our work?
