The Fight Continues
This past week, we saw the majority of our nation choose a new direction for our country’s leadership. The decision was met with jubilation around the world and a renewed sense of hope among millions. The Immigration Advocates Network shares our peers’ optimism for an improved political climate for immigrants and refugees in this country and know that our work is far from over. We remain committed to ensuring that immigrants and their advocates have all the tools at their disposal to easily navigate our immigration system and find peace and security in America. Thank you for your partnership and support during these very difficult last few years. We invite you to continue to support and invest in our work to support immigrants and their advocates nationwide.
New immi Chatbot
The Immigration Advocates Network is excited to launch the immi chatbot on WhatsApp, a new way for immigrants to find legal help. The bilingual (English and Spanish) chatbot helps users understand their immigration options and find local nonprofit immigration legal help. To reach the immi chatbot, start a chat with (415) 400-8660 on WhatsApp.
To learn more about the new chatbots, register to attend or hear the recording of a webinar, “New Ways to Help Immigrants with Chatbots” on December 16th, 2pm ET/ 1pm CT/ 12pm MT/ 11am PT. Click here to register. You can also schedule a 30 minute appointment to learn more about the immi project here.
Statistica reports that “1.5 billion users in 180 countries makes WhatsApp the most-popular messaging app in the world.” In Latinx communities Whatsapp is used by 60% of the population, far more than any other communication app. “Our communities are comfortable using WhatsApp so we want to meet them where they are,” said Sebastian Zavala, Program Manager of the immi project.
The chatbot is the latest triage tool for immi.org. The website features the Immigration Paths Quiz to identify options for legal status in the U.S. and the Make a Plan Quiz for a customized checklist on how to prepare for enforcement actions. The website's legal directory helps people find nearby free and low cost immigration legal help. The immi Learning Center contains plain language immigration law articles and updates. Since 2016, immi has helped over 200,000 immigrants find answers to their immigration questions.
Citizenshipworks: A Plain Language Hub for Citizenship Information
The Citizenshipworks' mission is to help people understand the law, make safe applications, and connect to the right legal help. We have a new outreach strategy to bring more applicants to our site: we're creating original legal content. When people look for trustworthy information online, we want them to find us and our partners. That's why we are inviting you to write for the Citizenshipworks Learning Center. Check out this "Public Charge" article from Legal Aid of San Mateo County. Look for the upcoming "Citizenship for Children" article from Project Citizenship. Join our effort and become a Citizenshipworks guest writer. Pitch your ideas to [email protected]. We'll work with you on plain language, attribute you as author, and link back to your organization's site. When you link to us, and we link to you, we create a network of good information for the public.
