Hi John,

It’s been a few weeks since election night, and what a time it has been! From watching the votes flood in and getting to see our new MPs enter Parliament for their induction day, to the announcement of Labour’s talented Cabinet and Friday’s news that we won the seats of Whangārei, Maungakiekie and Northland, as well as achieving over 50% of the party vote nationwide - it’s been such a positive time for our Party.

These moments though, are all the result of the incredible hard work and support our people-powered movement gave to Labour’s 2020 Campaign. I’m so grateful that we had supporters like you behind us as we campaigned harder than ever to successfully return a Labour Government and keep rolling out our plan to build back better.

The result we achieved together is remarkable - the first-ever majority government under MMP, an absolute majority of votes cast, and the best support for Labour in at least 50 years.

It’s a testament to the public’s support of Jacinda Ardern, our Labour team and our plan to keep New Zealand moving. But it’s also down to the campaign we ran together, a campaign that was positive, factual and robust - just as Jacinda promised it would be.

At the start of this year, we set out to build a people-powered movement that could compete with National’s campaign machine. I’m incredibly proud of what we built together and there are a few stats that I think really tell our story:

- Over 20,000 people chipped in to our campaign

- Over 9,000 of those people donated to Labour for the very first time

- Together, we made over 150,000 door knocks and phone calls in the last 6 weeks of the campaign

- We also made a further 80,000 contacts on election day

And on election night, we saw all this hard work pay off - not just in our high Party vote - but in electorate seats across the country. With seats like Ilam, Rangitata, Whanganui, East Coast, Northland and Whangārei now all having a Labour MP, our Party is better represented than it has been in years - this is a real achievement.

All that being said, planning for the 2023 campaign starts now. National is already working on their campaign review to figure out how to rebuild from this loss and come back stronger than ever in 2023. For us, if we want to keep the country going in the right direction, we need to start building Labour’s campaign infrastructure now.

Today, I would really appreciate your help as we take our first step to prepare for Campaign 2023 - analysing our 2020 campaign. I’ve put together a short campaign survey, and if you have a few moments, would be grateful if you could give us your feedback.

John, thank you again for the role you played in Labour’s 2020 campaign. I look forward to reading your feedback and sharing what you all thought of the winning campaign we ran together.

A short note on donations:

Over the next three years, the Labour Party has a really important role to play by amplifying the achievements and hard work of our Labour Team in Government. But to do that we need to make sure we have the resources in place to be able to run strong digital campaigns, recruit and train our volunteers and connect with communities across the country.

John, we’re proud to be a truly people-powered Party, and it will only be through the generosity of thousands of supporters like you chipping in what you can that we’ll be able to keep up the momentum we’ve started.

If you can, please click the button below to make a donation to our Party today so we can keep growing our movement, from now until election 2023. Our campaigning doesn’t stop now.
