Dear John,

The dust is finally settling on this hard-fought, historic election. Over the weekend, we celebrated the victory of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who received the most votes for any presidential ticket in history.

At Sister District, we’ve been celebrating our wins too – and we have an initial analysis on our impact and some early takeaways ([link removed][UNIQID]) on the 2020 election. Here are a few highlights:


** Sister District Drove Results for Democrats in Key States
------------------------------------------------------------

Results are still coming in, but we already know that:
* Sister District supported every seat that flipped from red to blue in both the North Carolina House and the Wisconsin Assembly.
* All of our Michigan candidates won, helping to drive Democratic turnout in the state for Biden and two Democratic Supreme Court Justices, flipping the court blue.
* Sister District won 3 of our 4 Wisconsin races, and we were able to prevent Wisconsin Republicans from getting a supermajority in the state assembly, which helps preserve Governor Evers’ veto power.
* We also helped elect some historic firsts: Ricky Hurtado is the first Latino Democrat elected to the North Carolina house, and Ann Johnson is the first openly LGBTQ+ legislator for her district.

Sister District candidates were in some of the most competitive races in their chambers – many were decided by just a few hundred votes. So far we know that 18 of our candidates won; they are listed at the end of this email.


** Our Volunteers Made an Outsided Impact
------------------------------------------------------------

This year, Sister District volunteers supported our candidates and programs by:
* Raising $1,833,155.88 from 66,667 donations (154% increase in fundraising and 186% increase in number of donations over 2019), an average of $45,128.32 per Sister Race and a median of 8.37% of a candidate’s total raise.
* Making 708,573 phone calls to voters (up 244% over 2019). We made an average of 34.45% of each of our candidate’s total calls.
* Sending 318,754 postcards and letters to voters (up 58% over 2019). We sent an average of 59.48% of a candidate’s total postcards. For 6 candidates, we sent 100% of their postcards.


** The Fight Continues
------------------------------------------------------------

Despite our hard-fought victories, it does not look as if any state chamber will flip blue this cycle. This is disappointing, and certainly not what we hoped, but flipping seats on badly gerrymandered maps is, as we have always known, a challenge. Still, we are pleased that we saw many individual victories in our target states, and Democrats will go into the 2020 redistricting cycle in a better position than they did a decade ago.
