Election Results

Last week, a record number of Americans made their voices heard at the ballot box. While results have yet to be certified, it’s clear that voters rejected the ideas of the far left. Despite predictions to the contrary, Republicans gained seats in the House and we are poised to hold our majority in the Senate. Hoosiers in particular clearly support Republican policies, including lower taxes, fewer regulations, Constitutionalist judges, and a strong military.

Impacts of Operation Legend in Indianapolis

When Operation Legend was announced, local leaders cited a record number of homicides. At the time, Indianapolis was experiencing a 51 percent increase in homicides and a more than 34 percent increase in non-fatal shootings. This federal initiative has helped restore order to the city. As reported by the Indy Star, “As of Thursday, there have been 145 criminal homicides in 2020, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Officials said the surge of federal money, manpower and intelligence was meant to tackle gun violence, drug trafficking and gang activity.”

Thank you to our law enforcement officers at every level for restoring order to the greater Indianapolis area! The recent uptick in crime has been unacceptable. As long as it’s necessary, I will continue to advocate for a sustained surge of federal resources to crack down on violent crime and ensure that every central Indiana resident can live peacefully within their local communities.

Ongoing Conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh

Last week, I connected Hoosier members of the Armenian National Committee of America to discuss the ongoing conflict between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey. My conversation with them underscored the need to end the violent aggression by Azerbaijan and Turkey in the region of Nagorno-Karabakh. This fighting has gone on for too long and I am grateful to our Armenian community for their efforts to end the violence.

One Health Day

Last Tuesday marked the fifth annual One Health Day. This day was designated to recognize and address health threats shared among people and animals so that we can prevent diseases like coronavirus from upending our society in the future.

KidneyX Artificial Kidney Prize

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) launched the KidneyX Artificial Kidney Prize last week to accelerate the development of artificial kidneys toward human clinical trials.

I am a strong supporter of innovative ideas like the KidneyX program to help the countless Hoosiers and their families suffering from the impacts of Kidney disease.

The goal of the Artificial Kidney Prize is to accelerate the development of continuous kidney replacement therapies that provide transformational treatment options beyond current dialysis methods. Click here to learn more.
