We finally put an end to Donald Trump's reign of terror, team. In a couple of months, the most corrupt, dangerous president in modern history will be gone.
But make no mistake -- progressive, working-class, Black and Brown communities delivered Joe Biden his victory with the hope that this new administration will act on a mandate of bold, progressive change from voters. We cannot turn our backs on them simply because a handful of moderate Democrats and pundits -- and ultraconservative former Governor John Kasich of all people -- are falsely pointing to progressive policies as the reason several centrist Democrats lost their House seats in swing districts.
The reality is that progressive policies win. My sister Rashida Tlaib and I organized massive turnout in our districts based on the progressive policies we fight for, swinging our states blue for Biden. Not one House Democrat in a key swing district who supported Medicare for All lost their seat. Even states that overwhelmingly voted for Trump approved of progressive ballot initiatives that legalized recreational marijuana and raised the minimum wage to $15.
The problem isn't progressive policies, it's campaigns that choose transactional politics over transformational politics -- investing very little in digital organizing and fundraising during a pandemic and stopping door-knocking, when creating deep relationships is what changes hearts and swings votes.
We might have won the presidency, but we can't get complacent and not fight for the people that poured everything into this election -- or we will lose even more House seats and even the next presidential election. We need to put people first if we want people to vote for us. That's why our campaign team isn't wasting a second to gear up for the next fight.
Will you chip in your first donation of $5 to support our massive organizing efforts? It takes a strong foundation of resources to do this work, and we need to start now if we're going to win big in 2022. [link removed]
