With the 2020 election results still coming in, voter fraud is now more than ever a clear threat to our republic’s electoral system. While voter fraud in the United State is not new, we need to urge state legislatures to investigate every possible instance of it, hold special sessions, and pass strong reforms that ensure confidence in the 2020 election results and the results of future elections.
While preventing voter fraud should be a serious concern in every state, certain state laws and election practices enable fraud more than others. The practice of “ballot harvesting,” which allows third parties, like campaign workers, to collect absentee ballots from voters and deliver them to election officials is particularly susceptible to fraud by either coercing voters or by stealing or manufacturing ballots.
Non-citizen voting is another threat to election integrity which happens because of laws giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens and other lax driver registration policies. Observers have pointed out that a New York law allowing driver’s licenses for illegals could enable illegal alien voting, and in other states like Texas, no citizenship checks exist when registering to vote.
The rushed changes to state voting laws due to the coronavirus pandemic have also increased the risks to election integrity. Multiple states relaxed security measures for mail-in ballots that, for the first time, automatically mailed ballots to every registered voter. The Public Interest Legal Foundation found that nearly 350,000 deceased people remained on the voter rolls in over 40 states, and over 50,000 people voted more than once.
Unlike normal presidential elections, the 2020 election winner was not determined on election night. A big reason was because multiple states including Pennsylvania and North Carolina extended deadlines for receiving mail-in ballots to after Election Day. During election counting, Georgia and Arizona also discovered many uncounted ballots well after the polls closed.
It is clear that voter fraud is not a hypothetical and is a very real issue. As documented by the Heritage Foundation, nearly 1,300 proven instances of voter fraud are currently known and accepted, with several major examples of fraud having been discovered in only the past several months.
It is urgent that state legislatures take strong and quick actions to counter voter fraud. State legislatures must immediately convene and take every possible action to solve the current election chaos, including investigating possible instances of fraud. The integrity of our republic and public faith in our electoral system is at stake!
