In 2011, map manipulators exploited the redistricting process to secure power -- and then over the last decade, used their gerrymandered majorities to institute voting restrictions.

But despite all the obstacles -- court-sanctioned voter suppression, and inaction from state legislatures -- Americans still voted in record numbers.

Last year, the House introduced H.R.1 (aka For the People Act) -- a bill that would strengthen our democracy.

The For the People Act would expand voting rights by implementing automatic registration, restoring federal voting rights for people with prior felony convictions, expanding early voting, prohibiting voter purges, increasing election security, and ending partisan gerrymandering in federal elections.
