We did it.

On Saturday, spontaneous celebrations erupted across the country as joyful Americans poured into the streets to celebrate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ victory.

With the Trump presidency in our rearview mirror, it’s time to breathe a sigh of relief. But that doesn’t mean we can take our foot off the gas. The enablers and sycophants who allowed Trump to run roughshod over our democracy and most sacred values are still in power. Mitch McConnell will retain control of the Senate barring a major upset in Georgia or Alaska. And Republicans are poised to pick up at least ten seats in the House.

We must get to work now to shore up our base, hold the GOP accountable, and do everything in our power to help the Biden-Harris administration succeed. It’s on us to show the American people what real leadership and public service look like.

GOP leaders in Congress are already dusting off the playbook they used during the Obama administration. They will do their best to block, stonewall, and obstruct any legislation we put forward. They don’t care that the American people need real relief and policies to fight the coronavirus crisis. They’d rather burn this country to the ground than let the Biden-Harris administration succeed.

It’s on us to stop them. We have the truth, decency, and hope on our side. Millions of regular Americans stood up and fought back to stop Trump. Now, we will come together once again to build a stronger future for all Americans. Let’s go.
