Hello,
We eagerly waited for a resounding rebuke of Donald Trump's disastrous presidency this election -- one that never came.
After a year in which Trump has attacked public health experts while countless Americans lost their lives, applauded white supremacists while condemning peaceful racial justice protests, and openly threatened our democratic integrity, the least we expected was an overwhelming show of force against this failed president.
But instead, we got a presidential race as tight as it was in 2016 -- and Trump received more votes than any Republican presidential candidate in history. Rather than condemning Trump's inhumane actions, Americans willingly applauded and expanded support for Trumpism this election.
The New York Times has described Trumpism as "a performance of nationalism, one that triangulates between open chauvinism in favor of the dominant ethnic group and narrow appeals to inclusion, with the promise of material gain for anyone who joins his coalition."
We're sure you know what this means, and we shouldn't take this lightly. This is a trend we've seen play out with authoritarians and populist leaders across the world, and now Americans are buying it. Trump even received major support in traditionally Democratic constituencies. We're extremely concerned with Trump's growing base, which is why we need to know where Democrats like you stand:
