In the final days of his re-election campaign, Trump endangered countless American lives by holding maskless rallies nationwide and using his COVID recovery to downplay the severity of the virus. And now, new data reveals just how dangerous those rallies actually were.

"Public health officials in Minnesota have linked more than 20 cases of the virus to Trump campaign events in the state," according to POLITICO. And "Stanford University researchers ... released findings that estimated 30,000 coronavirus infections and more than 700 deaths nationwide may have been caused by Trump's rallies, which draw large, shoulder-to-shoulder crowds of people typically not wearing masks."

With Joe Biden finally named president-elect, we can breathe easier knowing that come January, we'll have leadership that takes this deadly virus seriously.

Trump still has a responsibility to the American people during his lame duck period, one he clearly doesn't respect or understand, if his repeated insidious attempts to undermine the work of scientists and health care workers are any indication. And now, he's even complaining that "all [the media] wants to talk about is COVID."

But there's a reason why the pandemic is taking up so much airtime. CNBC reports that "last week, about 22 million people collected unemployment benefits of some kind. Food insecurity has more than doubled as a result of the Covid-19-induced economic crisis and affects almost a quarter of all U.S. households, according to researchers at Northwestern University."

A recent letter sent by Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi makes the stakes clear: "If Congress fails to pass another coronavirus stimulus deal, an estimated 5 million people will exhaust all of their unemployment benefits next month."
