Dear John,
Today, over 100 tenants and allies are testifying to support comprehensive rent control reform. Since launching the Reclaim Rent Control campaign just over a year ago, DC JWJ and the coalition have made a powerful stand to stop displacement of DC tenants. Over that time we have: sustained a coalition of over 50 organizations, won introduction of omnibus rent control reform, sent 1,500 emails to Councilmembers, and today have - for the third time - mobilized over 100 people to testify at a DC Council hearing. We made rent control, and specifically our solutions to our broken rent control system, a central issue in DC local elections.
Give to support rent control.
Our opposition noticed. Unsurprisingly, among the 30 landlords testifying today, there is significant overlap between the companies testifying and the top evictors in DC as well as the companies who received PPP and continued to file evictions. They claim we're well-funded lobbyists. You know the truth, we are a people-powered campaign fighting for justice.
We will continue to fight together with tenants for the rent control reforms we need.
"We are all older tenants who should be enjoying the
fruits of our hard work and we should have been able to trust that the current laws would protect us." Eloiza Chamoro has lived 44 years in the same building in Columbia Heights
We're in our biggest fundraising campaign of the year, ending in our celebration at the I'll Be There Awards! With these growing attacks, we are going to have to be stronger and fight harder to win the rent control reform we need. Will you make a donation today to sustain DC JWJ and our leadership of Reclaim Rent Control?
In solidarity,
