Trump is out! Trump has been defeated! 🥳 🥳 🥳
Whether you’re relieved, celebrating, or already steeling yourself for the upcoming fight against the Biden administration, we’re glad we’re in this struggle together. Â
Seattle DSA is thrilled to see Trump defeated, but we will not give Joe Biden a honeymoon period. The COVID-19 crisis, economic crisis, and climate crisis mean that we need drastic, bold action now: a Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and a massive coronavirus relief package for working people. Our lives, our communities, and the planet cannot wait.
Join Seattle DSA on Tuesday to discuss where we go from here. What can we expect from a Biden administration? What does organizing for a socialist transformation of society look like with Biden and the Democrats in the White House? What is the future of the Democratic Party? Our General Membership Meeting will run from 7 - 9 PM Tuesday, RSVP here.
While establishment Democrats suffered losses in the Senate, House, and State Legislatures, DSA showed that socialist candidates and platforms win. At least 20 out of the 29 nationally DSA-endorsed candidates won their races. Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush will join the rest of the Squad in Congress. Nithya Raman won her race for LA City Council, while Jovanka Beckles was elected to AC Transit Board in East Bay, CA. DSA members Jabari Brisport, Phara Souffrant, Zohran Mamdani, and Marcela Mitaynes were all elected to the New York State Legislature. And Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib’s massive voter turnout in their districts likely played a part in giving Minnesota and Michigan to Biden.
In addition, 8 out of 11 DSA-backed ballot initiatives passed. In Florida, voters approved an amendment to raise the state minimum wage to $15. Free, universal preschool paid for by taxing the rich passed in Portland, OR. In Portland, ME, four ballot measures were passed that would raise the minimum wage, pass a Green New Deal, and implement rent control.
Join Seattle DSA tomorrow to discuss these wins and how the left will continue fighting for a Green New Deal, COVID relief, universal childcare, defunding the police, and so much more.
Where do we go from here?
Tuesday, November 10 from 7 - 9 PM
In other election news, we were proud to support Sherae Lascelles for State House. While establishment Democrat Frank Chopp, who poured money into the race and inundated voters with mailers, has kept his seat, we know that Sherae won’t stop fighting for marginalized communities and the multi-racial working class. Sherae ran a principled, anti-establishment, and values-driven campaign.

Over the last month, 10,000 people have joined DSA. The largest socialist organization in the US now stands at just over 80,000 members, and we’re still growing. Join us today. We have a world to win.
