Hi John,

Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, 22, did what many of us might do without thinking twice. He shared a song with his friends on WhatsApp.

Yahaya now faces execution.

A Shari’a Court deemed Yahaya’s song blasphemous and he was sentenced to death in an unfair trial. Yahaya - and others like him - urgently need your support.

Influential figures and religious leaders are mounting pressure on the authorities to carry out Yahaya’s hanging as soon as possible. We have no time to lose.

Now in Kano Prison in Nigeria, Yahaya is fighting to appeal his sentence. Are you with him?

Every day, innocent people are imprisoned and separated from their families – for loving someone of the same gender, peacefully expressing their opinion or criticising the government.

At least 54 people were sentenced to death in Nigeria last year. But Amnesty members have successfully campaigned for death sentences to be dropped for decades - and with your help we can do it again.

Together, we’ve helped to release 50,000 wrongly imprisoned people over the world. You could help mobilise supporters to campaign for Yahaya’s freedom.

Could you help Yahaya and others like him walk free and go home to their families?
