Republicans will always champion school choice in Arizona.
Freedom
of Choice is a magnificent thing! According to the Arizona Charter Schools
Association, nearly
one-fifth of Arizona students are now enrolled in charter schools. This
comes as charter schools celebrate 25 years of operation in Arizona. This
success is no surprise when one looks at the data.
AzMERIT results show public charter school students scored better than the
state average in nearly every grade level and subject area from 2015 to
2018, according
to a recent Arizona Republic op-ed. Nearly 70 percent of Arizona
charter schools that received a letter grade received either an ‘A’
or ‘B’ grade in 2017-18. Charter students also boasted larger
National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP) gains than any state
from 2009-2017, with charter students outperforming district and private
school peers in every grade level and on every subject level tested.
Even when compared to the best district schools in Arizona, charter schools
routinely outperform their counterparts. And if we've learned anything,
it's that parents want—and students deserve—choice. The growth of
Arizona charter schools says something about the quality of the education
they offer Arizona families. The Republican Party of Arizona proudly
supports school choice and encourages parents to always seek the best
option for their children.
