Rule of Law | Health Union | Trade









Today, MEPs in the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality will vote on a report on the impact of COVID-19 on women, men, and vulnerable groups. On Tuesday, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will hold an interparliamentary committee meeting in order to assess the first Annual Rule of Law Report. Later on this week, MEPs will take part in a three-day plenary session featuring votes and debates on the US elections, the Sustainable European Investment Plan, and the election of a new first Vice-president of the Parliament, who would replace Mairead McGuinnes. 



Meanwhile, the Commission is expected to present its plan for building a European Health Union this Wednesday. The Foreign Affairs Council will discuss, among other things, trade with the United States and China.

European Parliament



Today, the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality will vote on a report assessing the impact of COVID-19 on women, men, and vulnerable groups. Moreover, the Committee will hold a hearing on sexual harassment in the European institutions. Meanwhile, the Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold a debate with the Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). From Wednesday to Friday, MEPs will take part in an online plenary session. Votes and debates will tackle the US elections, the EU4Health programme, and the regulations and transparency of the purchase and access to future COVID-19 vaccines.

On Wednesday, the Commission presents its plan for building a European Health Union. Drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission wants to strengthen cooperation in Europe when it comes to health. Furthermore, the Commission proposes to extend the mandate of the European Medicines Agency, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and to provide regulation on serious cross-border threats to health. In addition, the Commission will present its Communication on LGBTI+ equality strategy, building on earlier achievements to advance LGBTI equality.

Today, the Foreign Affairs Council will discuss, among other things, trade relations with the United States and China. On Tuesday, European Affairs Ministers will discuss the EU’s annual rule of law dialogue and will assess the situation in specific Member States. Ministers will also discuss the enlargement process in the Republic of Albania and the Republic of North Macedonia as well as the state of play of negotiations on the multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027. On Friday, the Justice and Home Affairs Council will discuss the EU’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum, which was recently proposed by the European Commission.
