John,

Yesterday we celebrated -- there were expressions of joy across the country, that our votes were counted, that we participated in and upheld our democracy, and that, despite popular narratives, Black and brown organizers and voters enabled our country to achieve record levels of voter turnout. This historic election solidifies Senator Harris as the first woman, first Black person, and first Asian-American Vice President.

Today, we call upon President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris to fight for the immediate relief our communities need, and to set a course for justice for our people.

We will redouble our efforts to build a world where all our neighbors are housed, healthcare and care work are funded, and we are all safe at work and have a strong voice in the workplace. We will address the climate crisis and hold extractive corporations accountable. We will build on the organizing infrastructure that has been built over these last four years to reclaim our cities from tech monopolies.

We honor the hard work and fierce determination of poll workers and of voters who stayed in line for hours. We thank those who gave rides to the polls, who worked hotlines to track voting irregularities and intimidation, who provided PPE and water and joyful music to voters waiting in line.

This election was also a painful reminder of the disenfranchisement of many voters. Too many are still excluded from the process, and too many of us face intimidation and voter suppression tactics. We deserve a democracy that works easily for everyone and will work toward one in which all people are excited to participate and can do so without fear.

Now the real work begins. We must keep up the momentum to hold the new administration accountable and show what a multiracial, authentic democracy looks like.

Thank you for walking alongside us,

Lauren Jacobs
