We need federal protections now
|
Hi John
Today was a heartbreaking and terrifying day for our LGTBQ+ community in Arizona. So many
friends reached out expressing their shock and concern as the Arizona Supreme Court ruled in favor of discrimination.
The ruling, which dangerously weakens Phoenix’s nondiscrimination ordinance, was a stark reminder that the patchwork of laws in this country are too variable, too inconsistent to protect our most vulnerable communities. Millions are left facing uncertainty and dangerous discrimination.
It is far beyond time for federal protections.
It is time for the Equality Act (HR5).
HR5 would provide consistent non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people in key areas of everyday life, including employment, education, credit and in public spaces and services. The Equality Act would also update the public spaces covered to include retail stores and similar locations.
Will you join me in standing up for the Equality Act?
We must
urge Congress to act and stop Rep. David Schweikert who callously voted against the act earlier this year.
Can you chip in to help us with this fight today? If Rep. Schweikert doesn’t believe in equality, he must have no place in our House.
Join our fight for every voice.
In solidarity, -Anita
