This year, Democrats have the best chance of winning Georgia that they’ve had since 1992.

According to USA Today, “The results underscore the new political reality in a state that Republicans still considered safely red only four years ago. The state, which has trended bluer in the past decade, is indisputably purple -- and is likely to shade even further blue in the future.”

That is, if progressive women leaders like Stacey Abrams continue to make their mark.

Abrams has been a fierce challenger to Republican voter suppression efforts in Georgia and across the country, organizing grassroots campaigns to register voters and bring awareness to the issue. Her efforts have made it clear that Georgia is “ready to be the blue state that we were meant to be,” and she has empowered communities of color and minority groups to make their voices heard.

Progressive leaders like Abrams are proof of what women can accomplish with grassroots support, even in a system dedicated to keeping them out. Abrams pushes us to keep moving forward.

As we prepare to rebuild after this challenging election cycle, we know that we must fight harder than ever to defend a woman’s place in politics and support the next generation of leaders who will protect reproductive rights, advocate for racial justice, and stand against the GOP’s far-right agenda. Right now, we need to quickly build back our resources to lead this fight.
