Dear Friend,

After five long days, we can finally say it: congratulations to President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, the first Black, South Asian woman ever elected to the position.

Thank you to everyone who donated, made calls, sent texts, talked to friends and volunteered to make this day possible. We voted for our democracy, for justice, and for a government that will represent all of us.

But beating Trump is not the end of the fight, it is only the beginning.

And Joe Biden and Kamala Harris cannot do it alone, certainly not with a divided Senate at best, or Republican control at worst. So we have work to do, New York:

At the top of the list for our state must be dealing with the twin economic and health crises caused by COVID-19 and the need for a recovery package addressing New Yorkers’ concerns about housing, education and jobs.

We need to take on systemic racism and make sure there is meaningful accountability for police misconduct.

And we must say: enough of Andrew Cuomo’s austerity budgets, and fight for budget justice in New York that gives the legislature — not just the governor — a say in our state’s budget process.

I’m ready to get to work. If you are too, I need your help. Because I can’t do it alone either:
