Indivisibles, Hey, it's Meagan. The team asked me to write something about Kavanaugh after I tweeted this because frankly -- I'm pissed.
Over the weekend, new reporting corroborated some of the worst sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh -- allegations that the FBI chose not to investigate before he was hustled through the U.S. Senate in one of the most corrupt, demeaning, and infuriating confirmation processes in history. The whole thing was abhorrent and completely unacceptable -- and still is.
As we process this emerging news, one thing remains clear: Brett Kavanaugh is unfit to serve on the Supreme Court. Full stop.
Though Kavanaugh was confirmed last October, there is a process for impeachment of Supreme Court justices -- and this new evidence is a moment to show that we believe survivors and we’re all-in to build a better Supreme Court. It’s not too late to take action against Kavanaugh. Here’s a few things you can do to channel your rage:
If your social media feed is anything like mine, the last few days have been an outpouring of grief and anger. I’ve had moments when I’ve wanted to cover my ears and shut it all out. I hope that if you need it, you’ll take a minute for yourself, and then join us again in the fight.

And now for your weekly to-dos:
Your (other) weekly to-dos
- Call your member of Congress right now and demand that they cut funding for ICE and CBP in this September’s funding bill. With only about two weeks before the Sept. 30 funding deadline, Congress must finalize a deal in order to avert a government shutdown. Help make sure they don’t give Trump additional money for his deportation machine by calling your MoCs to demand they #DefundHate.
- Tell your member of Congress to stop Trump’s march to war with Iran. Over the weekend, Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo continued to ratchet up tensions with Iran. Use our call script to call your member of Congress and tell them to support the Khanna-Gaetz amendment to explicitly block Trump from starting a war with Iran!
- Demand that your Senators support comprehensive background checks. There’s rumors in DC that Trump may release his own gun violence bill this week -- but we don’t need to see his NRA-approved “fixes” to know that the background checks bill that the House already passed is our best option for now. Call your Senators and tell them to demand a vote on S. 42!
2020 Update
With last week’s debate in Houston in the books, now is a good time to see how candidates have worked to reach out to the grassroots and uplift progressive priorities in this competitive primary. Let’s see who’s leading the way in this “invisible primary” as we look ahead to the final quarter of 2019:
- Warren, Buttigieg, and Booker win the Indivisible post-debate flash poll. After Thursday night’s debate, Indivisibles from across the country participated in a flash poll via text to tell us who impressed them the most on the debate stage. Our top three:
- Working Families Party endorses Elizabeth Warren for President. WFP, a partner in progressive grassroots organizing, announced Monday that their membership voted to endorse Senator Elizabeth Warren for President in 2020. Huge congratulations to WFP for their thorough endorsement process, and for using their power and voice to have real impact in the presidential primary!
