America counted the votes and the people have spoken: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been elected the next president and vice president of the United States. I look forward to working with them to build a future that is one of opportunity, strength, compassion, and fairness for everyone. I believe that's a future Americans on both sides of the aisle can believe in -- it's certainly a future the State of Washington can believe in.

Together we can develop and implement a more robust national plan to fight this pandemic, get children safely back in school, and build our economy back stronger so people can get back to work. That means revitalizing American manufacturing and training a 21st-century workforce. Together we will listen to science and boldly take on climate change. Together we will continue to fight against racial injustice and ensure civil rights and equal protection under the law are enforced for all. And together we will fight to expand health coverage and protect pre-existing conditions -- because every American should have access to high-quality, affordable health care.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris come from working-class backgrounds, and they know that for America to be strong, the middle class must be strong. That's a perspective that will serve Washington state and the country well as we move forward.
