We won!? ? ? ? Friend ? The people have spoken! Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be our next President and Vice President!
Voters turned out in historic numbers, especially voters of color and young voters across the country. Together, we voted for a just and equitable future that puts communities ? including Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, as well as low-wealth communities most impacted by intersectional environmental injustice ? at the center of solutions. Together we elected an administration with the strongest mandate for climate action and environmental justice in U.S. history. Thank you!
Thanks to your support, LCV Victory Fund launched our most ambitious electoral program, including a massive presidential program aimed at persuading swing voters on the environment in battleground states that will be the deciding factor in the Biden-Harris ticket's victory, including Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. With presidential outcomes being decided by close margins in these states, every person we engaged, every voter we mobilized and every ballot we chased was literally the difference between four more years of Trump or a new era of progress.
Because of this work, we can now look forward to a pro-science, pro-justice administration in the White House, a pro-environment majority in the U.S. House, and many new climate champions at the state and local level. And, with votes still being counted in Alaska and two runoffs likely in Georgia, pro-climate control of the U.S. Senate is still possible.
I want to thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Many of you gave more money and time to help win than ever before ? and it worked! We witnessed an unprecedented level of support and contributions to pro-environment candidates through GiveGreen.com. Supporters and allies like you helped priority candidates win their races.
We made more than 10 million calls to voters who historically face barriers to ballot access, or who had never voted by mail before, made 260,000 total contacts with these voters, and received commitments to vote from 180,000 voters.
Of course, our work isn't over today. The climate crisis, systemic racism, and COVID-19 ? three lethal pandemics ? are inextricably tied, with each exacerbating the consequences of the other. We must continue fighting for the rights of everyone, especially Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color that are disproportionately affected by these crises. We pursue climate progress in a manner that ensures the health and safety of everyone and fight for climate solutions that are centered on racial and environmental justice.
In the weeks and months to come, LCV will work with our allies in the Biden-Harris administration to finally address climate change in a just and equitable manner. We will still be counting on you to hold your legislators accountable, keep building the strength of our movement, and push for better environmental, climate, energy, and anti-racist policies.
With gratitude and optimism,
Gene Karpinski
