Friend, Tuesday may not have gone the way we hoped—but there’s still reason to hope, including the fact that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris just won the White House! Flying under the radar a bit is the fact that Mitch McConnell’s majority still isn’t guaranteed. And it’s going to come down to two tough Senate runoff races in Georgia to decide if Mitch gets to keep his job. Winning these runoffs is possible and absolutely essential to anyone who wants to pass COVID-19 relief, protect people’s health care, and get the country back on its feet. Will you chip in now to help Jon Ossoff and the Rev. Raphael Warnock win their races and end Mitch’s Senate majority? Jon Ossoff and the Rev. Warnock (who happens to be the pastor at Martin Luther King Jr’s. former church in Atlanta) will be strong, principled fighters for Georgians on everything from health care to protecting voting rights. Their opponents, by contrast, have been suspected of insider trading to get rich off the pandemic—selling stocks behind closed doors while they publicly told their constituents not to worry. And let’s be clear: These races are winnable. Thanks to massive grassroots organizing efforts years in the making, Georgia is a true battleground state—in fact, Rev. Warnock received the most votes in his race and, as I write this, Joe Biden is on the brink of winning its 16 electoral votes. In all likelihood, both races will be extremely close, and I hope you’ll join me in doing everything we can to elect these two great Democrats and get us one step closer to a government that functions again. Thank you, |
