The election results are in and voters have spoken: family separation and cruelty are against our values, and have no place in this country.
We’ve stood up against horrific things over the past four years: over 4,000 families separated, hundreds of children whose parents can’t be found, forced medical procedures in ICE custody, dozens of adults and seven children dead, and more. We still have a tremendous amount of work to do—we have an opportunity to right some of the wrongs done by the Trump Administration.
The fight for family dignity will continue into the next administration. And we’re going to continue laying the groundwork to ensure that family separation never happens again. We must set a new vision for the way we treat each other and build a future based on compassion and care, not cruelty.
But until January 20th, we must remain vigilant—because this shameful chapter of our country’s history isn’t quite over yet. The Trump Administration still has almost three months left in power. Just last week, we heard reports1 that an “immigration blitz” was being planned for Trump’s second term. And we have no reason to believe that the Trump Administration will set those plans aside simply because they lost.

We have a long road ahead of us to fix what’s been broken. The damage that the Trump Administration has done won’t go away when he leaves the White House. It’ll take the dedicated efforts of millions of us to ensure justice for families and a brighter future for immigrants to this country. But before we get there, we have to get to the inauguration.
