Today, we celebrate the power of the people. Organizers and community
builders, their efforts generations in the making, have delivered a
decisive victory to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect
Kamala Harris.
By electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, the American people have chosen
compassionate leadership, decisively rejected the politics of hate that
have defined the past four years, and delivered a mandate for change.
We celebrate the history made in this election; Kamala Harris will be the
first woman, the first Black American, the first Asian American, to be
Vice President of the United States, shattering yet another concrete
ceiling.
Today, we celebrate what we are able to achieve together. Tomorrow, we
turn our attention to the work that lies ahead. Our communities continue
to grapple with the overlapping crises of public health, economic
inequality, and systemic racism.
To address this hurt and harm and set our communities on a pathway to
healing, we must be precise in our legislating, intentional in our
advocacy, and unapologetic in our pursuit of equity and justice.
We must fight for bold, progressive policies that meet the scale and scope
of this crisis, centering the lived experiences of people, and rooting out
the deeply entrenched inequities impacting communities nationwide.
