Dear Supporter,
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's victory, and the end of the Trump presidency, is time for celebration—the beginning of a new era for the environment, for human health, for social justice.
But it's not time to sit back and relax. Too much damage has been done over the last four years to our air, water, climate, and wildlife. The stranglehold the fossil fuel and mining industries have on our government won't disappear when Trump leaves office. And don't forget—Trump and his cronies have two more months of doing whatever they can to destroy protections for the environment and human health.
Become a monthly member today. We need all the help we can get to continue the fight against the Trump administration until January and then repair the damage he's done once he's gone.
The first thing our new president needs to do is tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. The Trump administration's bungling and gross mismanagement has cost hundreds of thousands of lives, and it needs to be brought under control.
Then the Biden administration must start moving the country in a new, just, and equitable direction. That starts with fixing our democracy—reducing corruption, expanding access to voting, and more. They must build a clean and safe economy that creates jobs, supports workers, and helps marginalized communities build power. We need them to fight the climate crisis—curbing carbon emissions and supporting the most impacted communities. Our lands, water, and wildlife have suffered greatly—so we will push the new administration to protect 30 percent of our lands and waters by 2030. And they need to address systemic environmental injustice
—by rebuilding an Environmental Protection Agency that addresses the environmental inequities that harm communities of color, low-income communities, and Tribal and indigenous communities across the country.
Over the past few months some of our top environmental policy experts have been meeting with experts from other progressive groups and the environmental justice community to draft up recommendations for the Biden Team. These cover every federal agency, top political appointment, and the top Congressional legislative and Executive actions that need to take place once Biden takes office. We will be lobbying for this new agenda during this vital transition period.
In the coming days and weeks I'll have more priorities to share with you. But right now, I'm hoping you'll continue to make the environment a priority by supporting the Sierra Club.
Biden isn't president yet. Trump has almost three more months to wreak havoc on the environment, the climate, and the communities that are hit hardest by his policies—and we will NOT give up the fight to stop him, not for one second. We need your support to keep up the pressure and keep blocking him until the very moment he leaves office.
Once he's gone, we need to restore the health and vibrancy of our natural systems. We will work with the new administration, with allies in Congress, and in communities across the U.S., to advance our bold new agenda.
Thank you for your partnership and commitment. Take a moment to celebrate the opportunity that is now before us.
Then, let's begin the work of taking action to repair and restore the health of our nation, and our planet.
You can even usher in a new era and a new year of impact, by becoming a monthly donor now. We're ramping up a campaign to get 200 new monthly donors in the next 10 days. How about you?
Looking toward a brighter future,
